Ten years ago I picked up a paint brush for the first time. Beginning in acrylics, I soon moved on to oils, preferring the texture and techniques
one can achieve in that medium. Having no instruction or training of any kind, I read and studied everything
I could find. I especially studied the landscape artists that I admire such as Richard Schmid,
Michael Stack, and Joseph McGurl, and many more. Lately I have had the good fortune to study with Linda Cancel which improved
my work greatly.
Growing up in the flatlands and farmlands of the Illinois prairie made coastal
lowlands, the mountains, and even the piedmont exotically inspiring subjects for
my paintings. The expansive horizons and skies of the
Midwest
dominate one’s everyday life lending a familiarity with the colors and textures
of glorious sunsets to summers hazy, humid skies. Little did I know that observing nature’s subtleties would lead to its expression
in oil painting. Coming to this passion late, time has coalesced the influences of my life into
a love of landscape and sky I’m drawn to share with the viewer of my paintings. |
