Artist’s Statement for October 2007 Artists’ Guild Exhibit, “Together Again III”
Whether I work from actuality or memory, I’m usually exploring the process of
painting and, more recently, of mono-printmaking. I like responding to the way
media goes down and making use of any unusual qualities in the application and
making it work with my idea. That’s really a response to the visual elements,
which I enjoy apart from what they represent.
I’ve made more prints recently than paintings, though I’m primarily a painter.
My images are almost always recognizable. They are usually based on experiences
or things I thought were whimsical, curious, or provocative. My prints are probably
more straightforward and relate to my liking to draw with line. Since being retired
recently, I’m hoping to devote more time to both!
